In Moscow
From February 2 till February 9, 2010 Safe Runet Week (Nedelya Bezopasnogo Runeta) was held in Russia. Safe Runet Week is a group of public events dealing with the issues of promoting safer use of the Internet among children and parents.
Safe Runet Week is devoted to Safer Internet Day and is the Russian contribution in Safer Internet Day activities. This year Safe Runet Week will be held for the third time – the first Week was held in 2008. The events of the Week were held in Moscow and in 37 other cities from 35 regions of Russian Federation.
Safe Runet Week all over Russia included conferences, roundtables, Safer Internet contests, quizzes, exhibitions, expert communications. They were organized by NGOs, libraries, Internet-industry organizations with active participation of local government and law enforcement representatives.
The main events of Safe Runet Week were held in Moscow. Here is the list of Moscow events for Safe Runet Week-2010:
February 2. High Level Roundtable and Seminar “Child Safety on the Internet: Modern Approach in Russia and Europe”.
From Russian side the following people took part in Roundtable:
- Lyudmila Narusova, Council of Federation (Senate of Russia), Head of the Commission on Information Politics;
- Olga Kostina, Member of Public Chamber of Russia;
- Vladimir Ovchinskiy, Counselor for Head of Constitutional Court of Russia;
- Galina Kislovskaya, Director of Russian State Children’s Library;
- Mark Tverdynin, Russian Association for Electronic Communications, Director;
- Urvan Parfentyev, Safer Internet Centre – Russia, Coordinator.
- Tatyana Alekseeva, Children’s Ombudsman in Russia Representative;
Participants from European side:
- Janice Richardson, Insafe
- Brian O’Neill, EU Kids online
- Zdenek Zalis, Saferinternet.cz.
The event gathered specialists and experts in the field of ensuring child safety online. Also the roundtable was well covered by press.
The High Level Roundtable was held in Russian Information Agency Novosti (main Russian information agency).
February 3 – Video conference between Moscow and regions of Russia: “The Role of educational and cultural institutions in promoting and ensuring child online safety”
Participants – educational experts from schools, libraries, museums, local official bodies.

February 4 – Public Summit “Threats for Children, Users and Society from the Internet: situation in Russia”
Public Summit was based on i-SAFETY conference and is a new format of work on the problems dealing with safer use of the Internet. Public Summit gathered government officials, civil society specialists and Internet-industry representatives on several important issues in one discussion place. Its result was issuing recommendations for practical implementation.
Public Summit took place in Public Chamber of Russian Federation (Miusskaya ploschad, 7, Moscow). Summit program and list of participants is available at this website.
February 4 – Traditional “direct line” with experts.
Topic: “Teaching Children about the Internet: How, Why and What to Teach?”
Place – Radio station “Voice of Russia”, live air of “Internet Watch” broadcast program.
Invited Participants:
- Vera Chudinova, Russian State Children’s Library
- Svetlana Kobzeva, Public Council of Central Federal District of Russia
- Galina Semya, Ph.D of Psychology, Capital Financial and Humanitarian Academy
Broadcast started at 22-00.
The audience had a good opportunity for educative approach in awareness-raising and asked questions on the matters of child online safety education on air.
February 5 – Roundtable “Internet Safety and Society: everyday problems and everyday protection”
Roundtable Co-Organizer – NGO “Syostry Center” (Sisters)
The following topics were discussed:
- Criminalising simple possession of child pornography images: consequences for society;
- How to reach quick and reliable protection from illegal content?
- User-generated content services and children: balance between protection and civil freedoms.
Roundtable was held in Sakharov Centre, Zemlyanoi Val, 57 bld.6, Moscow.
February 9, Tuesday – Forum of Internet-Safety
Forum was organized by Ministry of Mass Communications. The following Safe Runet Week events was held during the Forum:
- Awarding ceremony for Second Family Internet-Safety Contest “My Safe Web” (Moya Bezopasnaya Set”;
- Roundtable on the matters of child online protection on the Internet.
Forum was held in Ostankino TV Center.
