About i-SAFETY and Public Summit

i-SAFETY — one of the most important Russian conferences on the matters of Internet-threats and safer use of the Internet. In 2010 i-SAFETY was held for the third time.

i-SAFETY 2010 was organized in the form of Public Summit "Threats for Children, Users and Society from the Internet: situation in Russia". The event was held in Public Chamber of Russian Federation (Miusskaya pl., 7 Moscow).

Public Summit received greeting letters from Speaker of the Council of Federation Sergei Mironov, Head of State Duma Committee for the matters of Women, Families and Children Elena Mizulina and Head of State Duma Committee on information politics and technologies Valeriy Komissarov.

i-SAFETY conference is the main event of the Safe Runet Week (in Russian — Nedelya Bezopasnogo Runeta) which is held by ROCIT and Safer Internet Centre-Russia for the third year. It is devoted to the Safer Internet Day which was launched by European Commission and celebrated in over 50 countries.

i-SAFETY topics include many problems on safe, ethical and responsible use of the Internet, how to prevent harm from the Internet and help victims of Internet-crimes. These topics include analysis of new threats and protection methods, awareness-raising and education issues, statistics and monitoring, legislative and ethical aspects, international co-operation, balance between public protection and respect of basic human rights. All these issues attract to i-SAFETY users of the Internet, Web specialists, teachers and those who work with children, officials, legislators, LEA representatives, parents, researchers, bloggers.

The format of Public Summit is a format of direct communication between representatives of government and law enforcement authorities, Internet-industry, educational sphere and NGOs on the matters of promoting and ensuring safer Internet for all users in Russia, especially for children and youth. Public Summit included not only traditional roundtables but also workgroups on most actual Internet-safety issues where legislative and practical initiatives were discussed and recommended for implementation.

The result of Public Summit are recommendations for government and law enforcement authorities, industry and civil society which are being handed to them.
